Salam
This will be my 2nd post responding on the letter in last week NST that said 'best achievers' in SPM should get direct scholarship without being screened like the others.Since that I am home it gave me opportunity to talk about this matter with my father.Discussion with him had bring me another perspective looking into this issue.A point where I also fail too realise and in my opinion it will be a huge problem in the future.
For the last 4 years we saw that amount of students took more than compulsory subject is increasing. This trend also catalyze by the type of people that think student who took irregular amount of subject is 'brilliant'.This group of people never think twice about the quality of the sutdent or in other word the caliber. My father looks into this problem from perspective that in the future students will take irregular amount of subject in order to get direct scholarship. They pass the screening straight away beacuse of the amount of subject they take. They were not evaluated in their communication skills, critical thinking and teamwork.
People might not see this as a problem and this trend might create a problem. We can see that there's a barrier for student from boarding school (MRSM and SBP) to take more than 15(which is also impossible). Then will they deserve any scholarship if they don't get 'large' amount of A's?Those student come from daily school might have an opportunity to exploit this 'chance' by taking 'impossible' amount of subject. It won't be hard if they just take subject like science (far more easier than bio) and other ridiculous subject that doesn't even evaluated to take courses in higher education institute.
If we flash back we can see that most of the 'impossible' achievers are Malays which are qualify to be in boarding school. It do made me proud but if this trend keep on growth will soon a be lot of Malay qualify to be sposored?I'm not gonna be racist but todays we don't have a large amount of Malay student who are very successful in daily school. If soon they make it a habit to let 'ridiculous' scorer pass by screening automaticaly,we might seing a decrease in amount of Malay further their studies in critical field.Since that selected Malays are stranded in boarding school where they only can add the most 5 subject(neglect religous stream), other races might take advantage on this situation.
Nowadays people always talk about justice. We want everything to be fair.Man and woman have the same right.Jobs no more according to gender so on and so forth. It is similar to screening a student for sponsor.Student that achieve 'ridiculous' amount of A doesnt mean they are really good.A good students is not by amount of A's.Those 'great' achievers should be screen so that sponsors can justified whose gonna meet their requirement.I once again state my disagreement to give 'irregular' scorer sponsor without screening.
