Assalamualaikum and good afternoon

Salam 1 Malaysia

I woke up this morning with drizzling rain outside. What a good sign for the 2nd day of the week.Rain is blessing from the Almighty and we must be grateful.Anyway I'm not gonna speak about religion as religion is beyond my capacity. What I'm plan to write about for this post on the recent statement by ulama that Muslim's are prohibited from celebrating Mother's Day.

First of all I would like to make it clear that I haven't read on the given statement except from re-tweeted tweet of Ustaz Azhar Idrus. In addition to that my source of reference is Wikipedia and I don't have intention to cite that as source of reference at the end of this post.Next is from my understand as a Muslim we are prohibited to celebrate something which is resemblance of other religious festive whether it is still in practice or not. Then we also prohibited to celebrate something which will results in waste a lot of resource and led us to forget on our kewajipan to Allah S.W.T.

Defining Mother's Day from Google-ing will give you 2 separate pages of Wikipedia. It will provide  you with different version of history of the celebration. One of it will summarize on the movement origin from United State during their civil war.It started with gathering of mothers whom their son had died or fought during the war.Not much been described I can cross-reference to any other celebration/festive except for church going which is part of American tradition on the day of celebration.

Go to another page about Mother's Day you can find in the 2nd paragraph that the festive has the resemblance of following festive celebrated by ancient cult/civilization (Please click for further reading).

  1. Cybele - Greek Cult
  2. Hilaria - Roman
  3. Mothering Sunday - Christian
As a holiday, it is strongly associated with reverencing of the Virgin Mary by Roman Catholic Church. As part of Hindu tradition it is called Mata Tirta Aunshi.

From above brief writing on the origin perhaps can help to provide the answer of our curiosity. My point of view at this matter, I believe we were prohibited from celebrating because it is resembling of other religious celebration. As I'm a bit lazy to read on above mentioned celebrations so please read it further to answer your curiosity. In addition to that I also believe the current practice of spending a lot of money to celebrate the day also taken into account.

Mother has been part of our life all the time.We were nothing without them and it is our responsibility to always keep in touch and take care of them all the time.Money can't buy happiness but some people with wealth you can return the favor to your parents. It is up to you to decide whether they have made the wrong call or not.Final words, enjoy the following songs for mother.Till we meet again.

Assalamualaikum
